If you want to become a nail technician, there are certain skills you should possess. You should have personal skills, such as being an organized person and able to keep a hygienic work environment. Other personal skills a nail technician should have are thinking with a creative mind, keeping a positive attitude at all times, and being able to communicate with people in general. Finally, a nail technician should be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, have a steady arm, have excellent coordination, and clear vision in order to effectively do their job. If this sounds like something you can do and you have your high school diploma or GED, you can attend a nail technician school or even a cosmetology school that offers nail design programs and courses that will teach you proper disinfection, nail anatomy, and nail art technique. After completion of a program from a nail tech school, you could test for your nail technician license or cosmetology license.
Nail technicians are trained to do many different beauty tasks for their clientele. A nail technician performs manicures and pedicures by cleaning, filing, and polishing. They also apply gel, fiberglass, acrylic nail tips, and decorative nail tips. Some nail technicians also offer other services to help their clients get rid of their stress, such as relaxing hand and/or foot massages. These massages are often done while being soaked and with an application of lotion to help nourish the client's skin.
In the work setting, nail technicians are responsible for keeping the tools and equipment clean to help prevent infection and the spread of germs and diseases. A nail technician is also responsible for keeping the work area sanitized at all times to keep it clean. Most nail technicians work in a salon. However, nail technicians can work in other settings, such as spas, hotels, and resorts.
